Man shot in Wapakoneta

WAPAKONETA — A 29-year-old man was shot early Sunday in Wapakoneta.

After responding to a call about suspicious people, officers were led to the scene of an ambulance call a few blocks away where the man was, according to the Wapakoneta Police Department.

The incident happened at 4:13 a.m. Sunday, and the man was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center by the Wapakoneta EMS with a non-life-threatening injury, according to the Police Department.

The ambulance was called to Ashland Avenue, a few blocks south of where police officers responded to the call about suspicious people, in the 600 block of South Blackhoof Street.

Police officers discovered the shooting took place in an alley in the 600 block of South Blackhoof Street. A person of interest was identified, but no charges were filed as the case was under investigation, according to Police Department officials.

Officers were continuing to process the scene Sunday with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.
