Allen East contracts coming

LIMA — There was no sign of debate at this month’s board of education meeting at Allen East.

After months of debating teacher salary contracts, the issue has finally made its way off the agenda as the district instated the teachers’ raises and has begun drafting their contracts, said Rhonda Zimmerly, the board’s treasurer.

Moving quickly through the agenda, the school board spent the most time in determining who would fill the most recent vacancy after Todd Burley resigned to pursue an employment opportunity in another state, earlier this month.

After about 15 to 20 minutes, the board elected Geri Ewing, a former member of the board. She was selected out of a pool of four applicants.

“It’s awesome that we have so many great members of the community willing to serve,” said board member Russell King.

The board also authorized the budget for the coming year, which included the certification of tax rates and levies for the county auditor. The taxes amount to about $36,545.
