LIMA —The Pontiac Trans Am was produced by General Motors from 1967 until 2002, although the body is still utilized in the IROC Racing Series. The Trans Am was based on the Firebird coupe body style. It was General Motors’ effort to appeal to the growing muscle car population in the late 1960s. In 1975, the Trans Am was the top performing pony car. The altered front end and wrap around window provided a sleek look for this car. Total production was at 27,274, and this number would continue to climb throughout the end of the decade and into the 1980s.
John Hesler, of Lima, brought his 1975 Pontiac Trans Am to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for 12 years. It was a barn find from Arkansas. Hesler says his favorite memories are rebuilding it from the ground up and his first drive after the rebuild.
