LIMA — Somewhere at Spencerville High School there’s an 18-year-old who’s used to wearing a clown suit and juggling for children.
On Wednesday, he’ll become a Lima Elks Lodge student of the month. He is also a candidate for Harvard and Princeton universities. He’s already been accepted to MIT, Ohio State University’s honor program and The University of Chicago.
He plan’s to study economics. But where to study? That won’t be as easy to decide.
Charged by high levels of motivation and drive, senior Trevor McMichael continues to aim high, refusing to accept anything less than success.
“He’s more than any parent could imagine,” said Peggy McMichael, McMichael’s mother. “We couldn’t be more proud.”
As president of Student Council, Math and Spanish club, McMichael is also captain of the football and track teams and works as a librarian, lifeguard and announcer for girls basketball. He’s worked with Buckeye Boys State, volunteered as a co-coach for various track teams and is a member of the National Honors Society.
As long as he keeps his grades up for his last few months of school — and it seems that way after making the honor roll every quarter so far — McMichael will be a co-valedictorian this spring.
“I don’t like standing idle at all,” he said. “I love helping out my community and I just love my high school.”
After making it to state in track and being a part of the school’s first football team to make it to the playoffs, McMichael doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon. He hopes to earn the title of state champion in track this year.
Still, the soon-to-be graduate realizes there wouldn’t even be a plan, or any titles, without the support from the people around him.
“Spencerville has just been so good to me in the sense that every step of the way someone’s been there for me,” he said.
