LIMA — Despite the low temperatures, Easter is indeed on its way.
Perhaps nowhere was that more apparant than Spartan Stadium on Saturday, the site for iHeart Media’s fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt.
“For the last few years, we’d done it at Apollo Career Center and this is our first year at Spartan Stadium,” iHeart Media account executive Chad Fast said.
Fast said the event usually brings in between 2,000 and 2,500 people and he was hopeful to have similar numbers this year.
“We have 20,000 eggs this year,” he said. “It’s a big event, one of our biggest of the year. It’s a great thing for the community.”
The hunt catered to children ranging from birth to age 13. Master of Ceremonies DJ Old Skool was glad to see the children out having a good time.
“I’m cold, but it’s a great thing to be out here with all these kids, and it shows how we at iHeart Media care about the community,” he said.
Brittany Johnson brought her daughter, Brynn, 8, with her after going to a previous hunt at Apollo.
“But we heard about this one and decided to come,” she said. “The Apollo one was not as big as this one.”
Along with candy, the children had the chance to win some special prizes, including a grand prize of a trip to Walt Disney World.
“Each age group has a golden ticket, and we’ll draw out of a hat from those,” Fast said. “The other two consolations prizes are very nice. They will include a prize packet from iHeart Media, including things like COSI tickets, zoo tickets and fair tickets.”
Spartan Stadium is not the only place to get Easter eggs this year.
Forest Park United Methodist Church, Calvary Chapel of Praise and Mizpah Community Center will hold hunts Saturday. Forest Park will hold its hunt from 10 a.m. to noon. Calvary Chapel will host its free hunt at 1 p.m. for children up to age 12, with live entertainment, food and prizes. Mizpah’s hunt will also begin at 1 p.m., with registration starting at noon. The hunt will feature more than 3,000 treat-filled eggs along with a barbecue fundraiser for the center.
Living Hope Assembly of God in St. Marys will also hold a free egg hunt after its worship service April 5, starting at 10 a.m.
