LIMA — Marathon Pipe Line, headquartered in Findlay, is expanding its pipeline system from Pakota, Illinois, to Lima.
The company now has the support it needs to start construction of the expansion, which entails a capacity increase of 18,000 barrels a day of light equivalent crude oil, according to a release from Marathon.
“The Patoka to Lima pipeline expansion will allow MPLX to provide enhanced access to the growing crude oil supply available in the Patoka hub,” Pamela Beall, MPLX president, said in a statement. “That includes Bakken, Canadian, U.S. Midcontinent and Gulf Coast production.”
The project will entail constructing two new pump stations and is expected to be in service in late 2016, according to the release.
Wal-Mart property purchased
LIMA — Wal-Mart Stores East LP and a company called WSE Management, LLC. sold land to 2430 Allentown LLC on Jan. 8.
The Allen County Auditor’s website describes the land as a Wal-Mart subdivision lot that is commercial vacant land, located at 2430 Allentown Road. It’s just east of King Avenue and Wal-Mart’s Allentown Road store.
The land sold for $330,000, according to the county recorder’s office, though the auditor’s site values the land at $195,200.
The land is 1.12 acres in size, according to the auditor’s site. Officials from 2430 Allentown LLC declined to described their intentions for the property.
Enterprise moves to North West Street
LIMA — The Lima location of Enterprise Rent-A-Car is now on North West Street in what the manager calls a more “visible” location.
The rental car company moved from its former location on Cable Road in December, after renovating the building at 1610 N. West St., formerly a branch of Superior Federal Credit Union.
“It’s just a better location for us,” said manager Samantha Recker. “It’s a bigger branch, more visible from the road.”
The location employs about 10 people in Lima.
Sidney gets growler station
SIDNEY — Those in Sidney with a hankering for craft beer can now find some at their local gas station.
Karoc Marathon on Hoewisher Road in Sidney is now offering “The Growler Station,” with eight rotating craft beers on tap.
The station is working with local breweries to provide brands such as Jackie O’s, Warped Wing, Hairless Hare, Dayton Beer Co., Toxic Brewery and more.
Growlers are available in either 32 or 64 ounces, according to a release from Karoc.
The station also has a selection of wine, cigars and a deli.
Supermarkets help stop hunger
LIMA — Fresh Encounter, Inc. has collected $21,722 to help stop food shortage concern in Ohio and Indiana through a program called Making Change.
“We don’t think families across Ohio and Indiana should be worrying about the source of their next meal,” stated Fresh Encounter President/CEO Michael Needler, Jr., in a statement. “The Making Change program allows us the freedom to focus donations to areas with the most or immediate need.”
The program works through customer donations at check out at Fresh Encounters stores. Fresh Encounters is the parent company of Chief, Community Markets, Sack & Save and Great Scot supermarkets.
The donations go to local non-profit organizations that focus on food assistance, according to a release from Fresh Encounter.
This is the sixth year Fresh Encounters has done the initiative, and the first year for Chief, newly acquired by the company.
Chamber encourages businesses to participate in “buy local”
LIMA — The Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce is working to promote buying local through social media.
It sent information out to members encouraging them to update their business profiles and create “eye-catching” promotions for websites, email and social media.
Chamber kicks off “Operation Thank You”
LIMA — The Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce is visiting each of its more than 800 members to personally thank them.
Operation Thank You involves volunteers delivering chamber members with a membership directory, decal and chamber information.
The chamber is looking for volunteers to deliver the thank yous on Feb. 4.
