Freshmen pace ONU in victory

ADA — Freshmen Joey DiOrio and Jack Ellerhorst each had career games, leading Ohio Northern to a 76-66 men’s basketball victory over Heidelberg on Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improved to 8-8 overall and 3-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Student Princes fell to 7-9 and 3-6 in the OAC.

DiOrio had career-highs of 24 points and six rebounds on 8-for-8 shooting from the floor, including 6-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Ellerhorst scored a career-high 11 points as ONU played without two players due to illness.

“We had a couple of guys out sick, so we needed other guys to step up,” ONU head coach Kevin Byrne said. “We did a nice job in the second half on both ends of the floor. We shot the ball well and did a good job rebounding the ball.”

UNOH 79, Lawrence Tech 54

LIMA — Lawrence Jackson had 21 points and Ed Jenkins scored 12 for Northwestern Ohio which improved to 16-5 and 11-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Lawrence Tech fell to 4-17 and 1-12 in the league.

Manchester 77, Bluffton 58

MANCHESTER — Bluffton fell to 8-7 and 4-4 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference while Manchester improved to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference. Andrew Finley led Bluffton with 14 points.

LIMA — Trey Schroeder (19), Michael Parsons (14) and Quavon Johnson (13) all scored in double digits for the host Barons.

Bluffton University 54,

Manchester 53

BLUFFTON — Macey Sheerer beat the buzzer as Bluffton improved to 11-5 and 6-3 in the HCAC. Manchester fell to 8-8 on the season and 5-4 in the HCAC. Sheerer led the Beavers with 17 points and teammate Rachel Beining scored 10.

ONU 61, Heidelberg 45

TIFFIN — A late run led to a Ohio Northern victory at the Seiberling Gymnasium.

Ohio Northern improves to 12-4 overall, 8-1 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Heidelberg falls to 7-9, 5-4.

Ohio Northern used a second half 9-0 run led by sophomore Britt Lauck to seal the victory.

Lauck netted six of the nine points, and finished the contest with a team-high 13 points.

Senior Jordan Kimes picked up her fifth double double of the season, scoring a team-high 13 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.

UNOH 69, Lawrence Tech 63

LIMA — Lauren Hopfner (17), Becca Harshman (13), Natalie Billing (13) and Shakeia Salters (10) all scored in double digits for Northwestern Ohio, which improved to 9-12 overall and 7-6 in the WCAC. Lawrence Tech fell to 8-9 on the season and 6-7 in the WHAC.

LIMA — Megan Imwalle had 28 points and Katelyn Georgens scored 23 for the host Barons.
