Ohio University’s leading tackler on the football field was allegedly involved in a fight off the gridiron early Sunday morning.

Quentin Poling, 20, an Elida graduate, was arrested after Athens Police Department officers noticed a large crowd while on patrol near Courtside Bar on Court Street in Athens at around 1:50 a.m.

According to the police report, a fight appeared to have started and when officers approached, a male attempted to leave the area. He was stopped and found to be underage and allegedly involved in the altercation. He was identified as Poling.

Another male, Jeffrey Stein, was located without a shirt on and was allegedly “obviously intoxicated” and trying to enter the bar. He was indicated in the fight as well and both Stein and Poling were transported.

According to Athens County Municipal Court records, Stein has not been charged in the incident and Poling was only charged with underage consumption. Poling has until April 27 to complete a diversion program which would essentially wipe out the charge against him.

Poling, a redshirt freshman linebacker, led Ohio with 89 total tackles this season and played in all 12 games. He also led the team with three interceptions.
