County real estate tax payments being accepted

LIMA — Real estate tax payments for Allen County residents are being accepted by the Allen County Treasurer’s Office.

“Real estate taxes are due Feb. 13 for first-half taxes,” Gilroy said during the county commissioners meeting Tuesday. “We sent out those at the end of December, so everyone should have that by now.”

About 70 percent of real estate taxes go to the taxpayer’s school district, with the rest divided among a variety of entities, including senior citizen centers, Apollo Career Center and the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.

“You’ll be able to see that itemization on your statement,” Gilroy said.

Payments can be accepted at any Allen County branch of The Union Bank or Superior Federal Credit Union or by phone at 419-223-8515.

“We always stress to pay as much as you can by Feb. 13,” Gilroy said. “Any amount that’s not paid by then does earn a penalty. We have payment plans available for after that period if people can’t pay it. It’s just important to make contact with our office so we can help those taxpayers.”
