Blue Man Group returns to Lima

LIMA — The Blue Man Group, a show that sold out almost instantly two years ago in Lima, is making a return trip to the Veterans Memorial Civic Center due to popular demand.

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday and runs about 95 minutes. Tickets are $66. Call 419-224-1552.

“It is like a rock concert atmosphere,” said Civic Center CEO Cindy Wood. “There is a lot of audience participation, and you don’t even realize 95 minutes have already passed.”

The Blue Man Group formed in 1987 and has remained popular since its inception. The men, with black outfits and bright blue heads, do not speak in the show but rely on percussion, comedy and multimedia.

Wood said it is one of the bigger productions to come to the Civic Center. In addition to seven semi loads of equipment and two busloads of performers, much of the Civic Center staff and a group of another 50 stage hands are involved with the production.

After selling out in Lima in November of 2012, this year’s performance has already sold 80 percent of the tickets.

“When they said they wanted to come back, I wondered how it would go,” Wood said, “but people are wanting to see it. I have heard a lot of people say they have seen it and they wanted to see it again.”
