Here is a look at some of the top high school game involving area teams during the next week.
Girls Basketball
ST. MARYS (7-5, 3-1 WESTERN BUCKEYE LEAGUE) AT BATH (12-1, 4-0 WBL)
When: 7:30 p.m. tonight
St. Marys was defeated by New Bremen 45-35 on Saturday. Sydney Cisco led the Roughriders with 11 points.
St. Marys was handed its first league loss last Thursday by Elida, 62-49.
Bath is coming off a 68-36 victory over Toledo Start this past Saturday. Maddie Dackin led Bath with 16 points. Teammates Alyssa Manley and Bri Smith added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
On the season, Dackin leads the Wildkittens in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game.
Odds and ends: Bath has won four consecutive WBL titles and are riding a 37-game regular-season WBL winning streak.
The Brass Tacks: St. Marys will need to upset Bath in order to stay in the hunt. The Wildkittens look to stay at the top of the WBL standings.
Boys Basketball
TOLEDO ST. FRANCIS (6-5, 3-2 THREE RIVERS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE) AT LIMA SENIOR (7-2, 5-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Last Friday, St. Francis defeated Fremont Ross 61-50.
Tuesday night, Lima Senior rolled past Toledo Central Catholic on the road, 70-39. Xavier Simpson and Elijah Pughsley each scored 18 points, while teammate Ruben Flowers added 13 for the Spartans.
This past Friday, the Spartans jumped out to a 36-4 lead over Oregon Clay, just 11 1/2 minutes into the game and never looked back, en route to a 90-45 win. Lima Senior led by as many as 58 points. The Spartans had 12 players break into the scoring column. Simpson led Lima Senior with 25 points.
Odds and ends: After dropping its first two games of the season, Lima Senior has won seven straight. The Spartans will need to keep their winning ways in order to keep their hopes alive for a TRAC championship.
The Brass Tacks: Lima Senior is having a very busy week, playing four games in five days.
SPENCERVILLE (8-3, 2-1 NORTHWEST CONFERENCE) AT BLUFFTON (10-2, 1-1 NWC)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Spencerville notched a road win this past Saturday when it defeated Bath 67-64. Zach Goecke led the Bearcats with 22 points. Teammates Dakota Prichard and Mason Nourse each scored 17.
Last Friday, Spencerville rolled past Allen East in NWC action, 82-47. Five Bearcats scored in double figures against the Mustangs. Prichard led Spencerville with 18 points. Goecke scored 14, Nourse added 13, Damien Corso had 12 and Jacob Meyer contributed 11.
Bluffton is fresh off a 55-36 victory over Fort Jennings on Saturday. The Pirates jumped out to a 33-15 lead by halftime and went on to record the win over the Musketeers. Levi Kistler led Bluffton with 11 points.
On Friday, Bluffton lost a tough one to Paulding, 50-41.
Odds and ends: This is a pivotal NWC game for both teams.
The Brass Tacks: Playing on the road in the NWC is never easy.
LIMA CENTRAL CATHOLIC (11-1) AT LIMA SENIOR (7-2)
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
After losing its first game of the season this past Saturday to Versailles, LCC bounced back Monday and slipped past Kettering Alter 58-50. Dantez Walton led the T-Birds with a 30-point, 11-rebound performance. Josh Dixon and Tre Cobbs each had nine points for LCC.
Lima Senior will be coming off a very busy stretch. The LCC matchup will be Lima Senior’s fifth game in eight days.
Odds and ends: Lima Senior leads the all-time series with LCC, 19-12. However, since the inception of the “Lima Cup,” LCC holds a 7-5 edge, including winning the last five meetings. LCC coach Frank Kill notched his 100th-career win Monday against Kettering Alter.
The Brass Tacks: This inner-city rivalry will be intensified this year. With Lima Senior guard Xavier Simpson transferring from LCC back to Lima Senior, there is added incentive for both schools to play well. Look for a very intensely played game between the two teams.
