This week’s updates on the coronavirus pandemic

• The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 will be artificially low for the next two weeks as the National Center for Health Statistics implements a new coding system.

The Ohio Department of Health said all deaths entered into the state’s database during the pause will be reported once the new coding system is operational. The pause will affect death totals reported on June 9 and 16.

• Community transmission of the virus remains high in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties, according to the CDC. Still, overall disease burden in the region remains low. Only 1.6% of inpatient hospital beds were in use by COVID-19 patients in the last week, per CDC data.
