Longer parental leave, pet bereavement and more vacation time for newer employees.

J.M. Smucker Co., the 122-year old Orrville-headquartered maker of pet and people food, revealed these new features of its employees benefits plan program, called Total Rewards.

The employee perks will be available to all employees starting Jan. 1, 2020, the company said.

Smucker has 7,000 employees, with more than 2,000 in Orrville.

Smucker already allows employees in Orrville to bring their dogs to work on summertime Fridays.

Pet food is the biggest selling segment of the company, which has made two major acquisitions of pet food companies since 2015.

The additions to the benefits program are:

• Up to 12 fully-paid weeks away from work following birth, adoption or foster placement. This time is in addition to the short-term disability benefits that already provide birth mothers with up to 12 weeks off — all fully paid.

• Three weeks of vacation time for employees with less than five years of tenure, up from two weeks.

• Pet bereavement leave following the loss of a pet.
