ALLIANCE — A sex offender on parole apologized to a small child, saying “he was sorry that he had to kill mommy” while choking the woman, Stark County Jail records show.
Police arrested Thorn D. Burgan, 30, of 1039 E. Patterson St., at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of Burt Avenue, after the mother of his child told officers Burgan tried to strangle her.
According to jail records, at one point the woman was holding the child as Burgan attacked her. It was not clear from records how the woman thwarted the attack or who called for help.
Burgan was arrested and jailed on charges of domestic violence, endangering children and disrupting public services.
He also was already on parole.
Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records show he was released from prison in 2016 after serving time for breaking and entering and two counts of aggravated burglary. Stark County court records show he went to prison in 2011 on those charges and a resisting arrest charge. He violated his parole and returned to prison in 2014.
The court records also show Burgan went to prison in 2008 for felony theft and in 2007 for pandering sexual oriented matter involving minors and gross sexual imposition.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office website lists him as a registered sex offender.
Burgan remained in the jail Saturday, held in lieu of $70,000 bond pending an Alliance Municipal Court hearing.
