Massillon man dies in two-vehicle crash

MASSILLON — A Massillon man died after he was ejected from his motorcycle in a collision with a car Saturday night.

The crash happened a few minutes before 10 p.m. on Hills and Dales Road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Chauncy Townes, 29, of Massillon was riding a white 2007 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound while Rebekah Owen, 26, of Canton, was driving a silver 2013 Chevrolet Cruze westbound.

Owen was making a left turn south into a private drive for Canterbury Commons Apartments, failed to yield to Townes and hit his motorcycle.

Townes’ motorcycle overturned onto the roadway and struck the Chevrolet on the right side. Townes was ejected from the motorcycle.

Townes was taken to Mercy Hospital by Jackson Township EMS with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said alcohol is believed to be a factor, and the crash is still under investigation.
