Akron police investigating after two men found dead in separate shootings


AKRON — Police are investigating after two men were found dead in separate shootings early Saturday morning.

The shootings do not appear to be related, Akron police said in a statement.

The first incident happened shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Schiller Avenue near East Tallmadge Avenue, police said.

The 46-year-old man was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was taken to a hospital and later died.

Preliminary investigation shows he was walking to his car on the street when two men approached him. The men demanded his belongings and shot him, police said.

The second shooting happened between 4:30 and 6 a.m. in a parking lot on South Arlington Street, police said.

A 58-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

No arrests have been made and police have not identified the men.
