Pomeroy man killed Friday in Athens County collision


POMEROY — A Pomeroy man died Friday afternoon and a 3-year-old was airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital after a head-on collision in Athens County.

Joshua Paul Kauff, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 3-year-old child in his vehicle was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. No information about the child’s identity or condition was released.

The crash occured when a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Bejamin James Dalton Lee, 30, of Athens, drove left of center while traveling northwest on Old Route 33 northwest of Robinson Road, striking the 2003 Ford Taurus that Kauff was driving. Kauff was not wearing a seatbelt. Lee was taken to OhioHealth O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, where he was treated and released.

The Athens Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
