LIMA — If you and the kids are looking for something fun and educational to do, you might want to check out this Saturday’s Harry Potter Marauder’s Party at Books-A-Million in the Lima Mall.
The event is free and runs from 4 to 8 p.m.
“We’re going to have five stations,” said Emilee MacGregor, general manager of the Lima store. “So, one of them, we’re going to have the Invisibility Cloak and a person can film the other person going invisible in the cloak, which is a lot of fun. We’re going to have the Sorting Hat, which we’re actually going to have it speaking and telling people what house they are in.
We’re going to have a craft at the third table and we’re calling it Potions Class. It’s to make snowglobes in little potions bottles so they can choose what ingredients they want to put in, whether it’s sparkes or little beads or things like that.”
To mark Harry Potter’s birthday there’s also a cake table where there are individually packaged cakes and fruit punch and the last table will get guests started off on a scavenger hunt.
“We’re going to have some fun prizes hidden throughout our store. We’re going to have little clues on nice little rolled-up strips that each group can take with one of them and go find the objects. Then they’ll have a bag they can decorate and fill that up with all their little prizes,” MacGregor said.
The effort to hold a Harry Potter party is designed to get more people into the store.
“We want to get more people aware that we’re here and we love to get involved in the community in different ways. Right now we’re doing different donation drives throughout the year for local groups. Right now it’s for the Adult Learning Center,” MacGregor said.
The Books-A-Million store is located near the former Macy’s store.
“I always tell people to come in the entrance that has the sign for luxury nails but we’re also right across from Hero Day so a lot of families know about them. They’re a really fun place to go in the summer,” MacGregor said.
