WAPAKONETA — The 167th Auglaize County Fair kicks off today and runs through Aug. 3 with an acrobatic show, mobile glass studio, i-Heart radio talent showcase and pony pulling as new events.
Gates open at 8 a.m. and the midway opens at noon each day. Amusements of America is the new ride company this year with rides available from 1 to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday. People can purchase a ride wrist band for $15.
This year’s fair theme is “The Family Fair,” according to Jessica Johns, fairgrounds office administrator.
“We understand that not all families are coming here for animals and agriculture, and some are coming strictly for entertainment and the grandstand and rides,” Johns said.
Monday and Saturday are Senior Day where admission for seniors is $5. Tuesday and Saturday is Kid’s Day where admission for those 12 and under is free and admission for those 12 and over is $8. There will be free kids activities including face painting, arts and crafts. Thursday is Veteran’s Day when veterans get in for free.
Attendees can purchase fair food favorites such as french fries, corndogs, hamburgers, hotdogs, cotton candy, homemade ice cream, fried vegetables and a food truck selling healthy food. There will be several pizza vendors on hand and sausage sandwiches will be sold at the pork barn. KonaIce will sell slushies and lemon shakeups will be for sale.
New this year is a pony pulling event today at the grandstand at 4 p.m.
Cincinatti Circus will bring its acrobatic acts for the first time to the fair with shows three times daily.
A mobile glass studio will show how glass is blown with shows today, Monday and Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m.
Also new this year is an i-Heart Radio talent showcase at 7 p.m. Tuesday where 14 contestants will perform and the winner will receive $1,000.
