LIMA — The publisher of The Lima News will leave the newspaper at the end of the month and join Greater Lima Region Inc. as vice president for communications and business development, effective June 1.
Doug Olsson, 58, has been the publisher of The Lima News since May 2016. He has been a member of the board of GLR for two years.
“I’ll miss working with the dedicated employees of The Lima News, who are doing important work for our community, but I’m excited to join GLR and collaborate with regional partners in both the public and private sector in our efforts to ensure economic viability for our region,” Olsson said in a statement.
Olsson served as Lima’s publisher and vice president of the newspaper’s parent company, AIM Media Midwest. AIM Media executives haven’t announced plans yet on replacing Olsson.
Olsson previously served as publisher at the Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He previously held executive positions at the Cincinnati Enquirer, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dallas Morning News, Sandusky Media and Houston Post. He’s also a past member of the Ohio News Media Association board of trustees.
“Doug’s background and expertise in marketing and communication will broaden our messaging to reach a much larger audience as we work to grow our region,” said Jeff Sprague, president and CEO of GLR.
Olsson is a native of Buffalo, New York, and a 1982 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he majored in business management. He and his wife, Leslie, have two daughters, Taylor Olsson, 26, of Tampa, Fla.; and Shelby Bray, 24, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla..
Olsson said his goal for GLR is to ramp up what’s already under way.
“We will accelerate strategies centered around job creation and workforce development in order to compete on a broad scale,” Olsson said. “Under Jeff’s leadership, with guidance from an engaged board, GLR’s work is already well underway in making positive contributions for our region.”
