LIMA — More than 100 well-known companies were looking for their next hire at the University of Northwestern Ohio Spring Career Fair at the UNOH Event Center on Wednesday night.

“It’s a good opportunity for students to network with employers, find out what positions they have available, for them to hand out their resumes and all of these employers here have quite a bit of job openings,” said Justin Flanagan, co-director of career services at UNOH.

Brodey Lehman, from Marietta, is about a month from graduating from UNOH and hopes to become a diesel technician.

“I’m in here looking at different employers and trying to find an opportunity,” Lehman said.

The diesel field is one that is booming for graduates.

“There’s always a demand for technicians in that area. Robotics and automation, that’s another one that there’s a big demand for,” Flanagan said.

Crown Equipment out of New Bremen had a booth set up looking to snag a few UNOH students.

“We pull a lot of good candidates out of UNOH. I’ve got, I think, four technicians on my team out of UNOH. I don’t know how you would find them otherwise. They would have to find you, and obviously, that’s not the route you want to go,” said Kyle Eynon, field service manager for Crown.

Flanagan says the event isn’t just for those ready to graduate.

“It’s never too early to start talking to them. It’s a good way for new students to find out what skill sets these employers are looking for, that way they can start building on those and that way they can start building their resume,” Flanagan said.

Flanagan says he’s seen the event grow each year.

“When I started here almost 10 years ago, there was about half this room that we had to partition off so with maybe 25-30 employers, so it’s definitely grown,” he said. “There’s a good demand for these fields.

The career fair was open to all current students and alumni and continues from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.
