LIMA — Several drop-off sites around the Lima-area will be collecting shoebox gifts for children across the world during the Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week Nov. 12-19.
Samaritan Purse, a religious humanitarian aid organization, will be collecting shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items.
Shoeboxes can be dropped off at 11 locations throughout the Lima area. Dropoff locations can be found on the Samaritan’s Purse website at samaritanpurse.org under the donate tab.
Through a partnership with local churches, the organization will deliver the gifts to children who are impacted by circumstances like war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine.
This year’s goal is for Lima area residents to collect more than 21,850 gifts in order to reach 11 million children.
“We are honored to be linking arms with our community to help children around the world experience the true meaning of Christmas,” said Regional Director David Zimmerman in a news release. “These simple gifts show God’s love to children facing difficult circumstances.”
