LIMA — The mother-daughter duo, Jennifer and Rachel Brogee, have recently opened Shop for Good gifts boutique, a business they established to help showcase creative products from those not only in the Lima area, but across the country and internationally.
The new gift boutique on 215 W. Market St. is the home of various gifts made from individuals from the local area and across the globe. Those items include jewelry, gourmet food, bath and body products, regional and Ohio pride items, clothing, kitchen items, candles, cards, gift baskets, journals and more.
This is a business that Rachel Brogee believes is needed in the area. She acknowledged that there plenty of thriving businesses downtown, and she and her mother are hoping to add to that to bring more people to the area.
“We meet so many people who make amazing products, and I feel like it’s a bigger market for them than craft shows,” said Jennifer Brogee. “This allows us to choose really good products and have them available any day that someone wants to shop for them.”
Every item that is sold is either good for the earth, is created by artists, is an ethical international trade, is locally made, has regional pride and/or supports social causes.
This was important to Jennifer, who has a MBA in international development, and has seen the impact of the buying habits on the economy.
“We wanted a shop that featured items that treat every layer of the supply chain with respect and dignity,” said Rachel Brogee. ” We wanted to make sure that everyone is respected every step of the way and to embrace everyone’s creativity whether it’s in Lima, the U.S. or internationally. We wanted to find those products that really allow them to be creative and do what they are passionate about and be financially rewarded for that and not being paid fairly for what they do.”
Aside from the products they currently offer, they also plan to offer gift wrapping, online ordering and shipping, personalized gift baskets and a personalized shopping service for those who want to buy a gift but would rather them pick out the items.
Those who are looking to sell their items through the store should apply online at shopforgoodgifts.com.
“I think that there are so many creative people in this region and we want to help bring their talents to the market,” said Jennifer Brogee. “We want to be another avenue in which they can showcase their products and we can connect them to buyers who really love what they do.”
