LIMA — The Shawnee Country Club will be opening its newly renovated pool Saturday, a new addition that General Manager Elliot Burke said is a big leap for them and their members.
The pool, which was built in 1972, has experienced various upgrades throughout the years. One of the most recent changes was in 2004 when the pool house was renovated and a tennis shop and a new snack shop were added.
The current $1.2 million project includes new flooring and restrooms in the pool house, a tumble bucket water area for children, six swimming lanes for the Shawnee Tide swim team, a heated pool, a small slide for the kids and two 20-foot slides for kids and adults.
The renovated pool has depths from zero entry to 12 feet 6 inches.
“Zero entry makes it easier for the adults, handicapped and for small children to easily get around in the pool,” said Burke.
As of Saturday, the pool will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week until Labor Day. During pool hours, life guards will be present and the facility will be supervised by a pool manager.
In addition to the recent pool renovation, the country club has also put in a new pond and rebuilt three of its greens on its golf course, holes 10, 11 and 14. The facility has also converted all of the fairways to bentgrass.
“This is huge in the golfing industry,” said Burke. “If you are a golfer, this means a lot.”
The club has approximately 350 members, according to Burke, using facilities for fitness, dining, golfing outings, club house amenities, tennis courts and lessons, massage therapy and more.
“Through this recent renovation we are hoping to get the word out to prospective members,” said Burke. “We want people to know that we provide a facility that takes care of the wants and needs for people that like the private club experience. We have the the desire to serve people, and that is what we are all about,” said Burke.
