VAN WERT — A recent merger between two ambulance manufacturing companies, Braun Industries, in Van Wert, and Demers Ambulances, in Quebec, Canada, will not only create an expansion in the ambulance industry but also create local job opportunities.
For the past 46 years, the family-owned company, Braun Industries, has specialized in manufacturing custom, high-quality ambulances and has delivered hundreds of ambulances each year, according to a news release.
“The timing is right to partner with Demers Ambulances, a company that shares our values, spirit of innovation, and commitment to quality and customers,” Braun Industries CEO Kim Braun said in a news release. “As the family contemplated many growth plans for a successful future, joining another successful brand that creates value for our workforce and customers was top of mind.”
For more than 100 years, Demers Ambulances has specialized in the distribution, manufacturing and design of ambulances. The oldest continuous ambulance manufacturer in North America, Demers ambulances are in service worldwide, according to a news release.
“We are very pleased with our progress in strengthening our presence and pursuing growth,” Demers Ambulances CEO Alain Brunnelle said in a news release. “Partnering with Braun provides us the right opportunity to better serve and service our customers, strengthen our employee base and enhance our capacity to operate and innovate in a competitive, global industry.”
Although the companies are merging, each one will keep its own brand, identities, facilities and employees and the combined company will be led by Brunnelle. In an effort to meet the joint goals of the two companies and to successfully start a type 2 production line in Van Wert, the local facility are currently accepting applications and hiring 20 new positions in welding, management, electric and production, according to Braun.
“I think that it is great news that Demers and Braun were two of the largest independent ambulance makers,” Van Wert Area Economic Development Director Stacy Adam said. “With the addition of the product line being moved to Van Wert and the anticipation of 20 new jobs for the city, we are looking forward to continual growth for Braun.”
