Display calls attention to veteran suicide

LIMA — A display in front of the Allen County courthouse on Wednesday was set in place to raise awareness of the alarming number of suicides by military veterans annually.

The “Silent Watch” is a national project during which members of the community — veterans and non-veterans alike — can stand in silent vigil for 30-minute shifts in honor of deceased military members.

The project is sponsored locally by the Allen County Veterans Service Commission. President Bill King said the 22 pairs of boots on display represents the number of veterans who take their lives daily across the nation.
