Fighting back against cancer

LIMA — People from the region made the rounds Friday night to show their support for cancer at the annual Relay For Life event at Spartan Stadium in Lima.

Relay For Life is a volunteer-based fundraising event. It’s viewed as an opportunity to celebrate people who successfully survived cancer and to remember people who have died from the disease.

Fourteen teams registered to walk in this year’s event.

The first lap of the American Cancer Society fundraiser is always dedicated to cancer survivors. The second lap is dedicated to the caregivers of survivors.

Friday’s event also included a silent auction, Bingo and clover hunt.

One highlight of the event are the luminaria bags surrounding the track. As the sun set, those were lit to reember people who’ve been lost to cancer and to reflect on the lives of those who survived.
