Caldwell officially sworn in as county prosecutor

LIMA — Allen County Interim Prosecutor Destiny Caldwell had the “interim” portion of her position title removed Thursday evening as she was sworn in as county prosecutor after assent from the Allen County Republican Party.

Meeting Thursday evening at Ohio Means Jobs-Allen County, the party’s central committee confirmed Caldwell to replace former prosecutor Juergen Waldick, who is now a judge on Ohio’s Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Since Waldick was elected as a Republican, Ohio law requires that any successor appointed during the term must be approved by the county party.

Caldwell had been serving as assistant prosecutor prior to Waldick’s departure.

“Destiny’s experience as well as a no-nonsense, law-and-order assistant prosecutor made her a clear choice to be appointed Allen County prosecutor,” Allen County Republican Party Chairman Keith Cheney said.

Caldwell will complete the current term and run for re-election in 2024.
