Waldick: ‘It has been an honor’

LIMA — Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldick will be passing the baton as he becomes a judge for the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals. Waldick won the seat in the November’s general election. After serving for 18 years, he said it is time for the next generation to take over.

Waldick spoke at the Allen County Republican Party luncheon Friday afternoon.

The crowd chuckled as he recalled moments from his career. He shared many trials and triumphs as he worked in the court of law. Waldick did not complete his mission alone. The judge-elect thanked three entities that have helped him along the way.

“Over the years we have had really good success and that is really due to three groups of people,” said Waldick. “One is the Lima Police Department. They are excellent, dedicated, hardworking and smart people. The sheriff’s department as well as the people that have worked for me over the years. They have been dedicated, smart and hardworking as well.”

Waldick honored those he has worked with for their help over the years. He shared that their work is not for the money but for the victims.

“I try to convey that we do the right things to the right people for the right reasons,” said Waldick. “Romans 13:4 says ‘if you do an evil be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain.’ That has been kind of a guiding scripture for us. If you have done something bad we are going to do what we can to remedy it. It is what we do. With that, I want to thank you.”

“Every day you get up you walk into the office and you are going to make a difference to someone out there,” said Waldick. “Some victim out there needs you to pick up the sword to fight for them. That is what you do. You try and get justice for the victims every day.”

As he transitions to the next part of his journey, Waldick thanked members of Allen County for allowing him to serve as their prosecutor.

“I am very humbled as your elected prosecutor for the past 18 years,” added Waldick. “It has been an honor but it is time for the younger generation to take over. I thank you for your support and trust over the years.”
