Real Wheels: ‘87 Cutlass picture perfect

LIMA – A picture can paint a thousand words, it has often been said.

Bud Linton, of Lima, is a believer of that old saying. He reaches in the pocket of his coat and produces a photograph of the sun setting behind his 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

“Isn’t that a thing of beauty?” Linton asks. “That could be the cover of a magazine.”

Linton has owned the ‘87 Cutlass for six years. You could call it his “dream car.”

“It was my wife Cindy’s idea to buy it,” Linton said. “She saw it on Tom Ahl’s 10-and-under lot on a late Friday night. We drove by the next morning and bought it.”

The car has been a project for him, one of which he enjoys.

“For the most part, I’m putting everything back to original,” he said. “It has the original Old’s engine with stock transmission.”

He also totally rebuilt the front suspension and brakes.

The car is painted a dark blue metallic and Toyota silver. “The paint was done before I bought it. I just dressed it up,” he said.

Cindy has also worked with him on the renovations. “She and I redid the interior. It was her idea to change the interior from red to gray,” Linton said.

He had the car at the Allen County Fair car show in August.

“I love to drive it around,” Linton said. “I’ve put it in several car shows and won my first trophy at the Rebel Run. Since then I’ve won a few more.”
