Ryan: Answer to our problems is more love

LIMA — On the road to November, Congressman Tim Ryan (D) and U.S. Candidate Tamie Wilson (D) stopped by the Allen County Democratic Party fall dinner on Tuesday evening.

Both candidates will be on the ballot in the upcoming election on Nov. 8.

Wilson is a small business owner who will be running against Congressman Jim Jordan (R) for the seat in the US House of Representatives to represent District 4.

Congressman Ryan will be running against JD Vance (R) for the open seat in the U.S. Senate to represent Ohio.

In recent news, Ryan and Vance participated in a debate. Ryan weighed in.

“I think we showed that I am the most Ohio candidate here,” said Ryan. “JD Vance invests in China while he is trying to be tough on China. He says he is tough on immigration while he invests in dozens of companies that use foreign workers. I’m from Youngstown and I am ready to go to work. I fought hard for the Lima tank plant here, for jobs, manufacturers, and taking on China.”

If elected into the position, Ryan said he plans to be on the defense appropriations committee to represent the Lima tank plant, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and many more to continue to support the defense industry in Ohio.

Ryan finished speaking with just a few questions.

“How do we make healthcare affordable?” said Ryan. “How do we make our communities safe? How do we make sure our seniors have a dignified retirement? How do we start to recognize that the answer to our problems is not more hate, not more division, not more anger, not more fear but that the future of this country has got to be more love? More compassion, more concern for each other, more fellowship, more forgiveness and a little bit of grace.”

Wilson shared her hopes to protect the democracy and people if elected into the House of Representatives.

“We need to protect the integrity of our country and the very foundations,” said Wilson. “That will be one of the first things I hope to do. Being a woman, reducing violence in our country is really important to me. I back the police 1,000%. I also think we need to do things to help make America safer in terms of reducing domestic terrorism, reducing domestic violence, mass shootings and abuse overall.”

Absentee voting is now available. The in-person election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
