Since last fall, Reagan has talked our ears off about playing football. At first, it was a hard no from Daddy – she was not going out there and getting tackled. But as I looked into options, I found out that the school has flag football. Daddy agreed and Reagan was ecstatic.

I am a mother. Twice I was pregnant and twice I gave birth to a baby. Which also means that two times I have gone nine months without drinking alcohol.

October sure is rolling by fast – I cannot believe that it is already almost time for trick-or-treat. I feel like most years, we have costumes picked out by mid-August. And yet, this year, we are still missing pieces that we need to pick up for Maylie’s and Reagan just picked hers out last week.

Forever is scary. It’s like a long time. And I truly believe that the only thing that can make forever scarier is failing at forever once before.

We are about six weeks into school, and I am officially over homework. Seriously, everyone has homework like every single night. I know, I should expect that and all, but man, there is something about this year that already has my tank empty.

My sis, Jen, and I are five years a part — which is like a lifetime when you are a kid. Growing up, she was that really cool girl down the hall — the girl I looked up to — the girl I so wanted to beat at basketball one day. She set the bar for me — I wanted to do everything she did and more.

I don’t have one single baby picture of her and me. I didn’t encourage her to say her first word or celebrate her first steps. When she lost her first tooth – or even the next 10 after that – I wasn’t there. You can’t find me in a photo walking her into preschool or kindergarten or any of her first years of school on the first day.

I didn’t expect to have teenagers this soon – so I am going to blame my unpreparedness on that. Although I truly do not think that one can ever fully be prepared for the teenage years (or even the late preteen years leading up to it). Regardless, God thankfully blessed me with my bonus girl who gets to be the guinea pig for all things teenage related for our girls.

I didn’t think I would take it this hard – feel this much feeling. It’s just another school year. I mean, we do it every year. You would think I would be used to it by now. But for some reason, the night before school started this year had me unable to contain my tears.
