LIMA — Hardin Northern graduate Kylee Hooker, who finished with 15 points, gave Ohio State Lima/Rhodes State the lead from the free throw line with three seconds remaining as the Barons defeated OSU Mansfield 53-52 in women’s college basketball Wednesday night. Kenton alum Sara Hoyt had 17 points also for the Barons.

ADA — The 10th-ranked Polar Bears (13-1) outscored the Yellow Jackets 9-3 in overtime to stay unbeaten in the Ohio Athletic Conference at 7-0. Amy Bullimore had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Jenna Dirksen (16) and Lindsey Black (12) each scored in double digits for ONU.

BLUFFTON — Allen East graduate Kaycee Rowe had 17 points and 16 rounds for the host Beavers (10-3, 5-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference). TJ Mills (19) and Abigail O’Donnell (10) also scored in double digits for Bluffton.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The University of Northwestern Ohio went from being down 31-27 on a 3-pointer by Bath graduate Danielle VanDyne with 3:19 remaining in the second period to 38-27 halftime deficit.
Upper Scioto Valley alum Emily Patton led the way for the Racers (7-12, 3-7 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) with 12 points while Cori Dickson had 10. Lauren Goodrum added eight points off the bench.

BEREA — The visiting Polar Bears built a 44-31 lead by halftime against 25th-ranked Baldwin Wallace.
Nate Burger had 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Ryan Bruns scored 23 and Travis Feitshans had 13 points for ONU (10-4), which moved into a tie for second with Baldwin Wallace and Marietta for second place in the OAC with a 5-2 conference mark. John Carroll is atop the league standings at 6-1.

Allen East has hired Paul Patton as its varsity coach. He replaces Bill Mattevi who resigned to take over as Director of Operations at Allen East.
Patton’s coaching career started in 2006 at Perry High School where he remained until 2013. At Perry, he won the Northwest Central Conference title in 2010 and was district runner-up in 2009, 2010 and 2011. For the last two years, he has coached at Upper Scioto Valley. His overall coaching record is 99-71.
Mustangs’ new hire
Allen East has tabbed Leah Sanderson as its new varsity coach. A long time art teacher at Allen East, she replaces former coach Dana Houston.
Though never a head coach, Sanderson is an experienced runner and often competes in distance races, including marathons. She will bring experience and distance running knowledge to the program and hopes to improve the female numbers in a program that has several returning male runners as well as boys and girls running for the junior high.
