Ohio Northern heads to Sweet 16 in women’s basketball

ADA — The No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern women’s basketball team used a strong fourth quarter effort to propel them to the Sweet 16 round of the 2017 NCAA Div. III Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears move to 29-0 on the season, while the Thunder end there season at 25-3.

Northern will be making its first appearance in the Regional Semifinal round in school history.

Amy Bullimore posted a game-high 20 points and added seven rebounds to lead the Polar Bears.

Jenna Dirksen chipped in 12 points for Northern and added five rebounds, while Shawnee graduate Britt Lauck had nine points and tallied six rebounds and three assists.

WAPAKONETA — Minster will play an 8 p.m. Thursday regional semifinal against Russia at Butler High School in Vandalia. Taylor Kogge (22), Courtney Prenger (15), Haley Baumer (15) and Ali Barderding (10) all scored in double digits for Minster. Emily Patton had 24 points and Shelby Spradlin scored 13 for USV.

VAN WERT — Collin Nartker had 15 points for Kalida, which will play a 6:15 p.m. Tuesday district semifinal against Crestview at the Elida Fieldhouse. Matt Niese led Miller City with nine points.

Crestview 55, Lincolnview 43

VAN WERT — Wade Sheets had 21 points and Javin Etzler scored 19 for Crestview. Chayten Overholt led Lincolnview with 20 points.
