Roundup: Locos duo hold Clippers to single hit

MUSKEGON — Carter Doorn (Purdue) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out nine in six innings as the Lima Locos recorded a 9-0 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League victory Tuesday against the host Clippers.

Lima’s Diego Gines (Indiana State) did not permit a hit or walk while striking out one in his one inning of relief in the seven inning first game of a doubleheader.

Cade Sadler (Kennesaw State) had a hit and three RBI, Carson Garner (Murray State) had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, Shawnee graduate Jacob Hutchins, who announced Monday he will be attending Niagara, had two hits and an RBI and teammate Josh Mrozek (Kent State) had three hits.

The Locos lost the second game of the doubleheader 9-7. Gines had three hits, including a home run, and two RBI and teammate Bryant Herring (Kennesaw State) had two hits and two RBI.

LIMA — Boys 16-18 winner Carson Harmon from Lima shot a 2-under-par 70 for the low round during Tuesday’s Lima Junior Golf Association McDonald’s Junior Series Webb Insurance Open at Hidden Creek Golf Club.

Delphos’ Isaac Gallmeier finished second with a 73. Ottawa’s Kayla Nartker won the girls 16-18 title by defeating DeGraff’s Zoey Merritt in a playoff after each shot 76.

Dayton’s Brody Miller was the boys 14-15 champ with an 81, one shot lower than runner-up Keaton Foster from Van Wert.

In the nine-hole par 36 competition, Ottoville’s Evan Altenburger won the boys 12-13 division with a 39. Kalida’s Paul Stechschulte was second with a 44. Troy’s Morgan Maxwell, who finished with a 48, was the only girls 15 and younger competitor.

DELPHOS — Winning pitcher AJ Proffitt did not give up an earned run and allowed six hits and four walks while striking out four in five innings. Teammates Damon McCracken and Kaydin Doner each had a hit and an RBI. Grant Ulm had a pair of hits for DSJ.
