BLUFFTON – One small tip for those teams playing Lincolnview down the stretch: Play deep.

Lincolnview knocked out 20 hits in a 15-6 victory over Bluffton in a Northwest Conference softball game Saturday afternoon at Bluffton.

Of the Lancers’ 20 hits, they had seven doubles and one home run.

“That was pretty impressive,” Bluffton coach Jon Inniger said. “That’s the best hitting team we’ve faced by far.’’

Lincolnview is 15-3, 5-1 in the NWC. Bluffton is 8-7, 2-3 in the NWC.

Crestview holds the top spot in the NWC at 7-0.

Every player in the Lancers’ lineup had at least one hit. Six players had at least two hits and three had three hits or more.

Leading the way for Lincolnview was leadoff hitter Makayla Jackman, who went 4 for 6 with two doubles and two RBI.

Kendall Bollenbacher was 3 for 5 with two RBI.

Winning pitcher Taylor Post was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI.

“We produce a lot of runs each game,” Post said. “I feel like we hit the ball solid and we jump on teams right away, usually.’’

Braxton Sherrick was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Zadria King was 2 for 4. Ashlyn Price was 2 for 2 with a double.

“Our hitting has been pretty solid all year long. I told the girls, I’ll put them up against anybody, bat-wise,” Lincolnview coach Eric Schwab said. “We have quality one through nine and we have multiple girls who can come off the bench and produce, as well.’’

Post picked up the win going five innings and giving up six runs, none earned, on six hits. She struck out 10 and walked four.

Post threw 107 pitches 67 for strikes using mostly her riseball and change-up. She also used a screwball.

“It takes a lot of pressure off me knowing we’ll produce the runs we’ll need,” Post said.

Bluffton led 3-1 after two innings, but the Lancers scored six in the third to take the lead to stay 7-3.

Bluffton got within 7-6 in the home third. Lincolnview scored five in the fifth to take a 12-6 lead.

For Bluffton, Riley Busch was 2 for 4 with a triple. Ashley Fleece was 1 for 4 with two RBI.

Olivia Hobensack was 2 for 4. Olivia Matthews was 1 for 3 with two RBI.

Lincolnview took a 1-0 in the second on a Sherrick solo home run over the center-field fence.

“Braxton (Sherrick) has been solid all year,” Schwab said. “It’s a luxury to have a hitter like her down in the seven hole.’’

In the home second, Bluffton scored three unearned runs.

Fleece’s two-run single to center gave Bluffton a 3-1 lead.

The Lancers’ bats did a little of everything in the third, including bunting for hits.

Addyson Stevens singled to right to start the inning.

Post and King then reached on bunt singles to load the bases.

Andi Webb’s two-run single to left tied the game at 3.

“With every power offense, you have to be able to play small ball,” Schwab said. “Bunting is a big part of softball to try to manufacture runs.’’

Sydney Fackler’s two-run double to center gave the Lancers the lead, 5-3. Bollenbacher delivered a two-run single to right and it was 7-3, Lancers.

Bluffton cut the margin to 7-6 in the home third.

Hobensack had an RBI single to make it 7-4. Matthews’ two-run single to right made it 7-6, Lincolnview.

But Lincolnview’s offense was just hitting high gear.

The Lancers pushed across five in the fifth to take a 12-6 lead. In the inning, Lincolnview pounded out four doubles.

Price started the fifth with a double.

Jackman’s RBI double to left made it 8-6. Post hit a two-run double and it was 10-6, Lancers.

Sherrick drilled a two-run double to right and it was 12-6.

Lincolnview added three in the seventh to finish it off at 15-6.

Bluffton starter Hannah Davis was under the weather and not able to pitch in Friday’s game. She went 4 2/3 innings Saturday, but didn’t have her usual command.

Davis gave up 12 runs, 10 earned, on 15 hits. He struck one and walked five.

“Our pitcher (Davis) came in with a 2.54 earned-run average,” Inniger said. “She felt all right today, but she was averaging less than a walk a game. … But they hit the ball. They just pounded it. So hats off to them.’’

Lincolnview meets Crestview (7-0 NWC) on Thursday at Convoy.
