Roundup: Criblez in third-place match at national competition

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Allen East junior Eli Criblez made it to Sunday’s third-place match in the 285-pound weight class at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Junior Nationals wrestling tournament.

Criblez will face Dominic Silvia from Maryland. After the first two days of the tournament, Criblez is 7-1.

This past high school season, Criblez placed fourth at the Division III state tournament.



ONU splits DH

MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern baseball team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday getting a 3-2 win over No. 1 Marietta as part of a doubleheader split at Pioneer Park.

The Polar Bears (6-9 overall, 1-1 OAC) fell 8-0 to the Pioneers (14-3, 1-1 OAC) in Game 1 of the doubleheader.

Maroin Local graduate Tim Knapschaefer got the pitching start for Northern in the second game and got his first win of the season after throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out five.

Coldwater grad Jacob Wenning had a pair of hits, including a double, for ONU.

Wenning also had two hits in Game 1.

Mount Union 2

ADA — Ben Gawronski and Sebastian Michaud each recorded hat tricks to lead Ohio Northern to a victory against Mount Union to open OAC play at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 5-2 overall and while the Purple Raiders fall to 3-3.

Women’s lacrosse

Ohio Northern 9

ALLIANCE — Avary Snyder scored two goals and added two assists for a team-high four points for ONU to open OAC play at Mount Union Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 4-5 overall while the Purple Raiders improve to 4-2.

Women’s tennis

Ohio Northern 8,

Muskingum 1

LIMA — Ohio Northern women’s tennis team opened the OAC portion of its schedule indoors at the Westwood Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 12-4 overall while the Muskies fall to 4-6.

Lima Central Catholic grad Olivia Kesner, Katie O’Connell and Ada grad Miranda Wills each went 2-0 on the day.
