SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — St. Marys improved to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the Western Buckeye League with a 57-24 boys high school basketball victory Friday night against Shawnee (9-4, 3-2 WBL).

Austin Parks had 29 points and Gavin Reineke scored eight for the Roughriders. Brady Wheeler had 11 points and Ja’Mari Johnson scored five for the Indians.

TOLEDO — Lima Senior dropped its first Three Rivers Athletic Conference game of the season. Brent Moss (15), Camren Miles (13) and Anthony Mosley (12) each scored in double digits for the visiting Spartans (11-2, 8-1 TRAC).

CELINA — Britton Hall had nine points and Andrew Stahr scored eight for the visiting Wildcats (3-11, 1-3 WBL). Braylon Gabes had 11 points and Dylan Feister scored eight for Celina (5-8, 2-3 WBL).

MINSTER — Jack Knapke had 21 points and Jadyn Mescher scored 14 for the visiting Flyers (10-2, 3-1 MAC). Brogan Stephey had 17 points and Johnny Nixon scored 16 for the Wildcats (4-12, 1-5 MAC).

WAYNESFIELD — Jayden Elliott had 23 points and Za’mere Daniel scored 15 for W-G (6-8, 1-3 NWCC). Cody Motter had 19 points and Landon Callahan scored 18 for the Temple Christian (2-11, 0-3 NWCC).

COLDWATER — Celina’s Alex Stachler (215), Brycen Miracle (120), Andrew Hines (126), Landon Engle (132), Jaden King (165) and Gavin Brown (175) and Coldwater’s Grant Heuing (157) each recorded pins.

Celina’s Zack King (144) won a technical fall and teammates Talen Wallace-Bruce (113), Colin Fokine (138) and Tyler Carlin (190) won decisions as did Coldwater’s Sam Obringer (150).

ONU wins twice

ADA — Ohio Northern wrapped up the home portion of its schedule on Friday evening with tri-meet victories against Ohio Wesleyan and Bluffton at the ONU Sports Center Natatorium.

The Polar Bears (5-2 overall) defeated OWU (3-4) 141-90 and topped BU (0-8) 178-21. Ohio Wesleyan also topped Bluffton 182-16.

Northern won nine of the 13 events, led by senior Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton).

Shaw won the 50 free in :26.11 and the 100 free in :58.05.

Senior Mya Parsons (Castle Rock, Colo./Arapahoe) won the 100 fly in 1:04.63.

Senior Megan Lubinski (Loveland/Brighton) won the 100 back in 1:02.55.

Junior Gabbie Grant (St. Clair Shores, Mich.Lakeview) won the 500 free in 5:46.53.

Freshman Hannah Eversole (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) won the 1,000 free in 11:40.44.

Freshman Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) won the 200 free in 2:06.70.

Junior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine), Lubinski, Shaw and freshman Sydney Selinsky (Dover/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:56.27.

Lubinski, freshman Annie Richters (Troy/Miami East), Grant and Selinsky won the 200 free relay in 1:44.78 to conclude the evening.

Bluffton two-sport standout Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) continued her assault on the record book with a second place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:21.62) and a third place showing in the 100-yard fly (1:05.40).

Men’s swimming

Ohio Northern 165.5,

Ohio Wesleyan 60.5

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s swimming and diving team wrapped the home portion of its schedule on Friday evening with a 165.5-60.5 victory over Ohio Wesleyan at the ONU Sports Center Natatorium.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-1 overall, while the Battling Bishops fall to 3-3.

The Polar Bears finished the 2021-22 season undefeated at home with a 3-0 record. Earlier this season, ONU topped No. 17-ranked John Carroll 157-139 and Mount Union 186-110.

Senior Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) won the 50 free in :22.06.

Senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) won the 200 I.M. in 2:06.34 and the 500 free in 5:22.45.

Freshman Nathan Gibbs (Parker, Colo./Legend) won the 1,000 free in 10:43.59.

Freshman Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) won the 200 free in 1:49.14 and the 100 free in :49.15.

Freshman Vincent Morando (Mansfield/Lexington) won the 100 fly in :57.97.

Freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) won the 1-meter diving with 299.85 points and the 3-meter diving with 261.15 points for six dives.

Sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee), Adams, Stanley and Horgan opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:37.82.

Freshman Ben Sterling (Mansfield/Homeschool), Adams, freshman Brandon Parkins (DuPont, Wash./Steilscoom) and senior Mike Lewandowski (Shelby Township, Mich/Eisenhower) won the 200 free relay in 1:29.47.

Ohio Northern won 11 of the 13 events on the evening.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday with a tri-meet at No. 4 Kenyon with No. 17 Case Western Reserve.

Men’s track & field

Larry Cole Invitational

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s indoor track and field team opened its 2022 schedule with a victory at the third annual Larry Cole Invitational on Friday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (4-0) finished with 179 points. Ohio Wesleyan and Manchester (Ind.) tied for second with 108 points each, Adrian (Mich.) was fourth with 99 and Anderson (Ind.) was fifth with 16.

Senior Travis Sutter (Sharpsburg/Ft. Recovery) and ONU’s 4x400 relay team each won events in meet-record efforts.

Sutter won the 3,000-meter run in a meet record 8:51.83, and freshman Jacob Kreger (Granville), sophomore David Gross (Prospect/Pleasant Local), junior Branden Kadlubowski (Fremont/St. Joseph Central Catholic) and junior Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) won in a record 3:30.44.

Sophomore Trey Myers (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) won the 500 run in 1:08.02. Sophomore Tyler St. Onge (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell) was third in the event in 1:10.66.

Senior Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) and freshman Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) finished 2-3 in the 1-mile run in 4:27.10 and 4:31.70, respectively.

Freshman Tyrese Barker (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) was second in the high jump by clearing 1.86 meters.

Sophomore Gabe Hensley (Lebanon) was second in the long jump with a leap of 6.23 meters and freshman Isaac Schoen (Coldwater) was second in the 800 in 2:05.02.

In the 200 dash, junior Hunter Kesler (Oakwood/Paulding) was second in :22.90 and freshman Jordan Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) was third in :23.33.

Senior Jack Lehr (York, Pa./Dallastown) was third in the shot put with a toss of 13.61 meters.

Freshman Ozzie Miller (Dalton) was third in the 60 dash in :07.13.

The Polar Bears will return to action Jan. 29 when they host the annual Joe Banks Invitational.

Women’s track & field

Larry Cole Invitational

ADA — The Ohio Northern women’s indoor track and field team opened its 2022 schedule with a victory at the third annual Larry Cole Invitational on Friday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (5-0) edged Ohio Wesleyan 158-136 at the top of the standings. Manchester (Ind.) was third with 86 points, Adrian (Mich.) was fourth with 71 points and Anderson (Ind.) was fifth with 25 points.

Freshman Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) won the 500 in a meet record 1:23.84.

Sophomore Allie Starner (Wellington) won the 60 hurdles in :09.61 and the 60 dash in :08.18.

Freshman Rosie Schroeder (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), freshman Rylie Barrington (Waynesfield/Waynesfield-Goshen), freshman Katelyn Messner (Granville) and senior Gizem Tanriverdi (Ada) won the 4x400 relay in 4:27.53.

Sophomore J.J. Herron (Mianisburg) was second in the 500 in 1:24.46.

Sophomore Olivia Ogg (Hebron/Lakewood) and junior Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) were second and third in the pole vault by clearing 3.35 meters.

Junior Lexi Neff (Northfield/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Oleysa Mertz (Johnstown) were 2-3 in the 1-mile run in 5:44.12 and 5:45.77, respectively.

Freshman Kendra Krichbaum (Ashland) was second in the 200 dash in :28.01.

Freshman Rylie Barrington (Waynesfield/Waynesfield-Goshen) was second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.25 meters. Freshman Ammryn Roberts (Logan) was third in 8.89.

Freshman Toria Ingalls (Tiffin/Colubian) had a pair of third place finishes. She was third in the high jump (1.58 meters) and third in the 400 in 1:06.06.

Schroeder was third in the 60 hurdles in :09.92.

Freshman M.J. Zindars (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was third in the 5000 run in 20:40.52.

Freshman Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) was third in the shot put with a heave of 10.60 meters.

The 4x200 relay team of Krichbaum, freshman Olivia Harger (Sidney), freshman Olivia Altiere (Canfield/Western Reserve) and senior Kayla Silva (Westerville/South) were second in 1:52.67.

The Polar Bears will return to action Jan. 29 when they host the annual Joe Banks Invitational.
