OTTOVILLE – Ottoville’s Dani Swint found herself in the right place at the right time as the Big Green junior punched in a shot that careened off the crossbar for the winning goal to give Ottoville the 2-1 win in double overtime over Lima Central Catholic in the Divisioin III district semifinal Tuesday night.

Ottoville improves to 11-4-3 and LCC falls to 10-5-2. Ottoville plays Coldwater, a 2-1 winner against Allen East, at Ottoville at 4 p.m. Saturday.

“I think every year we play LCC this is how it ends” Ottoville head coach Doug German said. “I don’t know what to say. I am beside myself right now. These girls. We told these girls after halftime just win the game and put it in the back of the net. Every year we play we play LCC it comes out this way.”

It was a heartbreaking loss for LCC who entered the game undermanned and without one of their top players in Annika Wilker. Despite the fact that they came in with only two substitutes, the T-Birds battled through the regulation and had numerous chances in both the second half and both overtimes to secure the win.

“We have had some injuries lately and some illnesses and missing some key players tonight including two starters,” LCC head coach Mike Santaguida said.”Obviously our most dynamic player, Annika Wilker is not here and for the last two games that has really affected us.

“But you know this was our game to definitely win and we had plenty of chances. We just didn’t put the ball in the net.”

Lima Central Catholic took the lead in the first half with a little more than 15 minutes left when Saiyb Martinez struck one around the 18-foot mark and squeezed it past Big Green goalie Madison Hoersten for the score.

Coming out of the second half, the Big Green went on the offensive and took control of the tempo and made several offensive charges to even the score but came up empty in the first 10 minutes but 14 minutes in Ottoville got the equalizer.

Whistled for a foul, Ottoville was awarded a penalty kick and Aly Saxton delivered the score to knot the game at 1-1.

“I don’t know what we told them at halftime to get fired up,” German said. “We got a PK to get us back in the game and obviously both team wanted nothing but to win and play Saturday.”
