Lima Senior started out slow and never recovered.

Fremont Ross took advantage of miscues and inconsistency from the Spartans en route to a 54-21 victory in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference clash Friday night.

Lima Senior, who’s playoff chances take a big blow with the loss, falls to 3-4 for the season and 2-3 in the TRAC. Fremont Ross, ranked No. 14 in the state coming into the game, improved to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

“We just weren’t consistent tonight,” Lima Senior head coach Alphonso Townsend said. “The offensive and defensive coaches had a great game plan but we weren’t consistent in the first half. We always look for some positives and even though we lost the team fought hard. I can’t take that from the kids because they battled.”

The Little Giants’ domination began early as the offense led by quarterback Kaden Holmes scored on their first four possessions and owned a 51-14 lead at halftime.

One reason for Fremont’s early success came down to field possession. The Little Giants started from the Spartans’ 5 yard line on its first possession after a botched snap on a punt, the Spartan 39 yard line on its second possession and their own 36 yards. All three drives led to touchdowns.

Conversely, Lima Senior went three and out on its first four possession. On its fifth possession, the Little Giants recorded a safety and on the Spartans’ sixth possession Lima Senior fumbled. The Spartans did not have a first down until midway through the second quarter.

Lima Senior briefly interrupted the Little Giants’ scoring when D.J. Clark returned a kick-off 99 yards for a touchdown.

In the first two periods, Holmes carved up the Spartan secondary as he was 13 for 23 for 156 yards with 5 touchdowns and one interception. He did not play in the second half.

On the ground, Little Giant tailback Labronze Barnett rushed for 93 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown.

Lima Senior’s other first half touchdown came on a big play when quarterback Aiden Howard connected with Zavion Garner who was streaking down the sidelines for a 76 yard touchdown pass.

Howard finished the game 10 of 27 for 192 yards with one touchdown. He did score on a quarterback sneak in the second half.

Howard was sacked six times by the Little Giants and the Lima Senior running game was stuffed. At halftime, the Spartans had minus 21 yards on the ground and minus 19 for the game.

Lima Senior had 8 first downs for the game. Fremont Ross had 25.
