Shawnee defeats Elida in boys golf

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee topped Elida 175-188 in Western Buckeye League boys golf Thursday at par 36 Shawnee Country Club.

Justin Altenbach (38), Colin Pasion (44), Jack Shivley (46) and Matthew Azzarello (47) combined for the winning total. Elida’s Carson Harmon was medalist with a 37.

Bluffton wins

LIMA — Bluffton (159) had the low team score in a match involving Northwest Conference members followed by Ada (216) and Spencerville (257) at par 36 Hidden Creek Golf Club.

Medalist Kenny Lovett (36), Micah Minnig (39), Jaden Coonfare (40) and Jacob Boisvert (44) combined for the winning score. Ada’s Dexter Woods (54) and Spencerville’s Michael Woods (55) had the low rounds for their teams.

Allen East triumphs

HARROD — Allen East (161) had the low team score in a matchup of NWC squads followed by Delphos Jefferson (187), Columbus Grove (188) and Crestview (199) at par 36 Colonial Golfers Club.

Medalist Zach Miller (36), Cameron Rettig (40), Noah Brown (41) and Elijah Lawrence (44) combined for the winning total. Jefferson’s Isaac Gallmeier (42), Columbus Grove’s Trey Sautter (46) and Crestview’s Will Sharpe (45) had the low rounds for their teams.

OTTAWA — Thomas Weis led Miller City with a 42 at the par 36 Moose Landing Country Club.

Medalist Ben Romer (37), Sam Koesters (43), Ty Post (44) and Luke Ontrop (48) combined for the winning total at the par 36 Mercer County Elks. Andrew McNaughton, Josh Bensman and Tyler Paul each shot 48 to lead New Bremen.

Fort Recovery 200

CELINA — Hunter Bruns (43), Roman Leszinske (44), Caden Slusher (47) and Gabe Schaaf (50) combined for the winning total at par 36 Celina Lynx Golf Club. Fort Recovery’s Isaac LeFevre was medalist with a 42.

Tri match

DEFIANCE — Paulding (182) finished behind Wayne Trace (176) and ahead of Hicksville at Auglaize Golf Club. Kyle Dominique led Paulding with a 40.

MINSTER — Max Henschen led New Knoxville with a 48.

OTTAWA — The competition at par 36 Moose Landing was limited to two-player teams with Chelsea Erford shooting a 47 to lead Miller City.

Medalist Grace Buschur (42), Natalie Ashbaugh (46) and Jordan Hemmelgarn (48) contributed to Coldwater’s winning total at the par 36 Mercer County Elks. Laney Finke and Kennedy Voskuhl each shot 53 to tie for the Cavaliers’ fourth-best score. Morgan Guggenbiller led Marion Local with a 50.

Girls tennis

Shawnee 4, Bath 1

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Singles players Alora Patel and Rose Kottapalli and the doubles teams of Delaney Dawson and Cara DeBrosse and Taylor Stumbaugh and Jenova DeBrosse won for Shawnee. Singles player Ann Oliver won for Bath.

Van Wert 3, Celina 2

CELINA — Singles players Grace Lott, Natalie Benner and Mandy Buregna won for Van Wert. The doubles teams of Whitney Jones and Kaylyn Saunders and Michelle Elston and Audrey Albers won for Celina.

Elida 4, Kenton 1

KENTON — Singles players Ava Long and Kenzie Savill and the doubles teams of Eden Troyer and Taylor Crates and Alayna Mack and Hali Khork won for Elida. Singles player Katie Sturgeon won for Kenton.



ONU picked

third in OAC poll

ADA — Ohio Northern was picked to finish third in the 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Coaches Poll on Thursday.

Northern received 67 points in the poll.

Otterbein was picked as the favorite to win the league with 78 points and six first place votes.

Muskingum was picked to finish second with 74 points and four first place votes, Baldwin Wallace was picked fourth with 51 points and Marietta was picked fifth with 48 points.

Coaches do not vote or their own teams on the balloting.

The Polar Bears finished the 2020-21 season with a 13-3 record, finishing third in the OAC.

Ohio Northern opens the 2021 season Sept. 1 at Earlham (Indiana) under second-year head coach Katie Kuhn.
