Girls Tennis

Western Buckeye League’s Ottawa-Glandorf and Wapakoneta tied for first place at the Lima City Tennis Invitational held at the Collett Street Courts Saturday.

The Titans and Redskins recorded 22 points to share the top spot. Lima Central Catholic was third with 21 points followed by Bath with 17 points and Elida was fifth with 13 points. Bluffton had six points and Lima Senior scored two points.

In the A singles bracket, LCC’s Libby Simmons took first place after beating Bath’s Elena Oliver in the finals. Wapakoneta’s Mackenzie Schroeder was third and Sami Ellerbrock was fourth.

Bath’s Anne Oliver garnered first in the B singles bracket after defeating Ottawa-Glandorf’s Alyse Balbaugh. Taking third was Lima Central Catholic’s Paige Brinkman who beat Elida’s Eden Troyer in the battle for third place.

In C Singles, LCC’s Clair Janowski was the winner after she was victorious over Wapakoneta’s Mara Stiles in the finals. Elida’s Taylor Guth was third.

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Megan Welch and Lauren Bockrath won the A Doubles bracket after beating the Wapakoneta pair of Bailey Barrett and Elizabeth Good in the finals. Elida’s Taylor Crates and Valory Ta placed third after beating LCC’s Mckenna Bader and Noah Nuesmeyer.

The Wapakoneta team of Addisyn Cooper and Brooke Minnig made it a Redskin sweep in the doubles competition after they beat Ottawa-Glandorf’s Kristi Schneeg and Kayla Brickner in the finals. Third place went to the LCC pair of Maria Pignataro and Emma Skinner.

Women’s Golf

ONU set to defend title

ADA – The Ohio Northern women’s golf team will begin its 2021 fall schedule under ninth-year head coach Chad Bucci by hosting the annual Polar Bear Classic Sept. 5-6 at nearby Colonial Golfers Club.

The Polar Bears are slated to play in four other tournaments, beginning with the Olivet (Mich.) Invitational Sept. 10-11.

Northern is also scheduled to compete at the Heidelberg Fall Invitational Sept. 17-18, the Bluffton Beaver Classic Sept. 18-19 and the Capital Classic on Oct. 11.

More fall tournaments may be added in the coming weeks.

Men’s Golf
