Roundup: Elwer, Holly receive state recognition

COLUMBUS — Aaron Elwer (boys basketball) and Shawnee’s Russ Holly (boys track and field) have been recognized with OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Awards.

Throughout the 2020-21 school year, the coaches associations of the sports sanctioned by the OHSAA selected one of their own for the honor. Individuals selected reflect the values of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity through their professional responsibilities and are role models for student-athletes and others.

Club champs

DELPHOS — Delphos CC held its 2021 Club Championship last week with 74 players competing in seven flights.

Kyle Karhoff won his first club championship at DCC with rounds of 77-72-72 for a total of 221, winning by four shots against Zach Weber and Gordon Fairchild, who each fired 225.

Other champions included Joe Gallmeier (senior club champion, 77-79 — 156), Michael Allen (super senior champion, 157 over two rounds, Jack Gerker (high school champion, 68-74 — 142), Matt Kramer (first flight), who won in a playoff against Adam Gerker with a birdie on the first hole of sudden death, Austin Lucas (second flight division) and Jim Baxter (super seniors first flight).

The putting course challenge contest was a tie between Heath Stechschulte and Nick Fitch and the Long Drive Champion for the LD challenge was Austin Lucas.
