SANDUSKY — The Lima Locos came into the postseason red hot but the Sandusky Ice Haulers cooled off the Locos with an 11-5 victory in the first game of the first round of the playoffs Monday night.
Lima will look to even the series when they return home for game two at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Locos had jumped out to a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the third inning but the Ice Haulers knotted the score in the bottom of the frame and then broke the game open when they tallied unanswered run in the next three frames to open up the 11-2 lead.
Lima starter Jonathan Machamer, who suffered the loss, was roughed up in his four and two-third innings of work when he was tagged for seven runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out one.
Ice Hauler starter Landon Smiddy, who garnered the win, went six innings, surrendered four hits, two runs, two walks while striking out seven.
The Locos had eight hits in the game. Nate White and TJ Reeves each drove in runs Trevor Austin went 2 for 4. TJ Austin, who went 2 for 5, hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth and drove in three runs.
Lima committed three errors in the game.
