TROY — The Minster boys claimed the team title at Friday night’s Division III regional.
The Wildcats finished with 78.5 points with Cedarville (65) second. Other Lima area teams finishing in the top 10 included Marion Local (52) in third, Coldwater (32) in seventh and Perry (27) in eighth.
Bryan Falk (100 and 400) and the 800 relay team of Nathan Webb, Phil Trzaska, Jack Kohne and Evan Dorsten, the 1,600 relay team of Brady Hoelscher, Nathan Droesch, Joseph Slonkosky and Bryan Falk turned in first-place efforts for the Minster boys.
Waynesfield-Goshen’s Taylor Spencer (girls 1,600 and 3,200), Perry’s Brady Yingst (boys 800 and 1,600), the Marion Local boys 400 relay team of Luke Tangeman, Kyle Otte, Alex Eyink and Peyton Otte, Coldwater’s Tyler Schwieterman (boys 300 hurdles) and Jesse Meyer (boys long jump), Minster’s Taylor Roth (girls 800), Marion Local’s Jack Knapke (boys discus) also won events.
West Liberty-Salem won the girls team crown with 90 points. Minster (50.2 points) was second. Coldwater (34), Fort Recovery (33) and Marion Local (25.2) finished eighth through 10th respectively. The top four finishers in each event advanced to state.
Lima area second place finishers included the Minster girls 3,200 relay team of Taylor Roth, Margaret Hemmelgarn, Mason Pohl and Ella Boate, the Minster boys 3,200 relay team of Brady Hoelscher, Josh Niekamp, Mathew Droesch and Alex Albers, the Coldwater girls 800 relay team of Mallory Kremer, Becca Wenning, Maria Clune and Ava Giere, the Marion Local boys 800 relay team of Owen Rindler, Charlie Huelsman, Ben Heitkamp and Peyton Otte, Minster’s Alex Albers (boys 1,600), the Spencerville girls 400 relay team of Gillian Goecke, Ariana McMichael, Lilyan Goecke and Claire Hoback, Minster’s Margaret Hemmelgarn (800), Lima Central Catholic’s Traves Hoyle (boys 200), Minster’s Ella Boate (girls 3,200), the Coldwater girls 1,600 relay team of Maria Clune, Sara Honigford, Becca Wenning and Ava Giere, New Bremen’s Elli Roetgerman (girls discus), Lincolnview’s Daegan Hatfield (boys high jump) and Fort Recovery’s Whitley Rammel (girls shot put).
Area third place finishers included Marion Local’s Ben Heitkamp (110 hurdles), Fort Recovery’s Abbie Francis (girls 100), the Lincolnview boys 400 relay team of Dylan Schimmoeller, Landon Moody, Cole Gorman and Camden Miller, Marion Local’s Owen Rindler (boys 300 hurdles), Minster’s Alex Albers (boys 800), Fort Recovery’s Mara Pearson (girls long jump), Marion Local’s Molly Winner (girls shot put) and Coldwater’s Jesse Meyer (boys shot put).
Area fourth place finishers included the Coldwater girls 3,200 relay team of Carlee Goodwin, Sara Honigford, Ava Giere and Haley Alig, Marion Local’s Sam Hoelscher (100 hurdles), Coldwater’s Haley Alig (girls 1,600), Marion Local’s Charlie Huelsman (boys 400), Marion Local’s Sam Hoelscher (girls 300 hurdles), Minster’s Joseph Slonkosky (boys 300 hurdles), the Marion Local girls 1,600 relay team of Lynn Schwieterman, Jayden Huelsman, Sam Hoelscher and Alana Pohlman, Allen East’s Gabe Criblez (boys discus), Brenden Oleson (long jump) of Delphos St. John’s, St. Henry’s Dustin Quinter (boys shot put) and Spencerville’s Dale Smith (pole vault).
As of deadline, no Lima area athletes had qualified for state. On Wednesday, Elida’s Conner Douglass advanced to state with a third place in the pole vault.
Division II state
CINCINNATI — Shawnee singles player Gabe Burke fell 6-1, 6-2 to Sanjan Shanker of Columbus Wellington School and Indians teammate Mason Stahl dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match to Griffin Biernat of Columbus Wellington in the opening round at Camargo Raquet Club.
In doubles first-round play, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Colin Welch and Carter Welch lost 6-3, 6-3 to Evan Manley and Braysen Chawla of Columbus Wellington and Lima Central Catholic’s Enrico Pittalis and Aaron Simmons were defeated 6-2, 6-0 by Gahanna Columbus Academy’s Arie Tuckerman and Jack Madison.
Inclement weather resulted in the postponement of Friday Division IV district finals involving area teams to Saturday. Kalida will play Leipsic at Patrick Henry at noon and Lincolnview will meet St. Henry at 5 p.m. in Coldwater. Also today, Shawnee takes on Tiffin Columbian in the Bluffton University D-II district final at 2 p.m. and Minster plays Eastwood at 3 p.m. in the D-III Elida district championship. Start times are subject to change.
LIMA — Following the rainfall Thursday night and Friday, Limaland Motorsports Park Management was forced to cancel the Ron Kahle, Jr. Memorial Race. The event has been rescheduled for June 11.
The next scheduled Limaland event is the 19th annual Keysor Memorial presented by Homeland Technology Group featuring the Non-Wing Sprints, Northwest Physical Therapy Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks scheduled for Friday, June 4. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m. Head to limaland.com for more information.
The Waynesfield Raceway Park portion of the Ron Kahle, Jr. Memorial is scheduled for Sunday. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with general admission seating available starting at 4 p.m. and racing beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 for adults, $15 for those ages 62 and older and $10 for those 11-15.
