Roundup: Cowan pitches baseball no-hitter for Lima Senior

ELIDA — D’Ontre Cowan allowed no hits and two walks while striking out 12 in a seven inning complete game as Lima Senior recorded a 4-0 high school baseball victory Saturday against Elida in the Scott Harmon/Tyler Williams Memorial Game. He also had a hit and an RBI.

Reece Waithe had two hits, including a double, and two RBI and Anthony Lutz doubled. Elida’s Noah Bowman allowed one earned run, six hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings.

The annual event that pits these two teams is played to honor Williams, a Lima Senior graduate, and Harmon, an Elida graduate, who were killed in a bus crash as teammates on Bluffton University in 2007.

Parkway 4, Lincolnview 3

ROCKFORD — Riley Samples doubled in Bryce Mihm with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Samples finished with two doubles and an RBI and teammate Bryce Stearns had a hit and an RBI. Collin Overholt had two hits, including a double, Dane Ebel had a hit and an RBI and Carson Fox had two hits and an RBI for Lincolnview.

Ottawa-Glandorf 6, Allen East 3

Winning pitcher Jaxon Buddelmeyer allowed one earned run, four hits and a walk while striking out four in five innings. Carter Duling had two hits and two RBI and Carter Schimmoeller, Jacob Balbaugh and Dylan Wagner each had a hit and an RBI also for O-G. Garett Newland had two hits and Bradden Crumrine had a hit and an RBI for Allen East.

Leipsic 7, Pandora-Gilboa 1

LEIPSIC — Winning pitcher Tyler Sickmiller allowed four hits and no walks while striking out three in seven innings. He also had two hits and an RBI. Blake Liffick had two hits and two RBI and Mason Brandt had a double and an RBI also for Leipsic. Camden Teman had a hit and an RBI and Tommy Hovest doubled for P-G.

LEIPSIC — Winning pitcher Trey Schroeder allowed six hits and three walks while striking out 14 in seven innings. Sickmiller had two doubles and two RBI and Quin Schroeder had two hits, including a double, and Blake Liffick had a pair of hits also for Leipsic.

St. Marys 5, Minster 4

MINSTER — Adam Tobin had two hits and two RBI, Tanner Howell had a triple and two RBI and Drew Dammeyer doubled for St. Marys. Johnny Nixon had a hit and two RBI and Justin Nixon had a hit and an RBI for Minster.

FORT RECOVERY — Hayden Wibbeler had a hit and two RBI, Dylan Fleck had three hits and Alex Knapke had two hits and two RBI for Marion Local. Ryne Post had two hits and Daniel Patch had a hit and two RBI for Fort Recovery.

LEWISTOWN — Wapakoneta’s Ryan Camper allowed one earned run, three hits and four walks while striking out seven in six innings. Teammate Trevor Crow had two hits.

Sydney Schwieterman had two hits and three RBI and Lauren Robinette had two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Van Wert’s Brenna Bollenbacher had two hits and an RBI.

Lorynn German had a hit and an RBI for Van Wert.

NEW BREMEN — Winning pitcher Jackie Homan allowed five hits and no walks while striking out six in seven innings. Sophie Pearson and Ava Schoen each had a hit and an RBI. Allison Hays and Alayna Ross each doubled for New Bremen.

ELIDA — Erika Suever had a double and an RBI, Cadence Miller had a had a home run and two RBI and McKenzie Miller, Morgan Klett and Leah Ramirez each had two hits for Elida.

Miller finished with three hits and three RBI, Cadence Miller had three hits, including a double, and two RBI, Eva Irons had three hits, Lacie Moening had three hits, including a double and a triple, and an RBI and Rylie Mick had three hits, including a double, and four RBI also for Elida.

HOUSTON — Meg Henkle, McKayla Sites and Madison Louth had two hits and Paige Stephenson had a hit and two RBI for Parkway.

HOUSTON — Winning pitcher Louth allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three in seven innings. Sites had a triple and an RBI and Stephenson and teammate Maddie Jacobs each had a hit and an RBI.

Russia 5, Coldwater 1

COLDWATER — Coldwater pitcher Madison Wendel recorded her 200th strikeout of the season. She allowed one earned run, five hits and a walk while striking out eight in seven innings. She also had two hits and an RBI. Teammate Molly Steinke had a pair of hits, including a double.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Northwestern Ohio triumphed in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament.

Yadi Rivera had three hits and two RBI, Jeffre Castillo had two hits and an RBI and Bryant Diel had two hits and an RBI for the Racers.

ONU sweeps

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern baseball team erupted for 27 runs and 37 base hits in a 20-5, 7-2 doubleheader sweep at Otterbein’s Fishbaugh Field.

The Polar Bears run their winning streak to eight games and improve to 20-13 overall and 19-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Cardinals fall to 10-18, 7-17.

Junior Corey McMann set ONU’s single-season doubles record and sophomore Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) went 8-for-9 with five runs scored and 3 RBI to highlight the day.

McMann had a 2-run double in the third inning of Game 1 to break the mark of 17 set by Scott Bush in 1999. McMann led off the sixth inning with his 19th double of the year.

Softball

Polar Bears win 2

ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team completed a 4-game sweep of Otterbein with 3-1 and 4-3 victories on Saturday at the Otterbein Softball Field.

The Polar Bears end their regular season with a 20-17-1 overall record and finish 19-16 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

ONU will be either the No. 3 or the No. 4 seed in next week’s OAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 4 pm at the ONU Softball Field.

The Cardinals end their season 14-25, 11-24.
