Roundup: Allen East’s Newland throws two-hit baseball shutout

BLUFFTON — Winning pitcher Garett Newland allowed two hits and no walks while striking out seven in five innings as Allen East defeated Bluffton 11-0 in high school baseball Friday.

Jordan Motter had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, Blaine Belcher had two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Carter Young had three hits and two RBI. Jacob Granger and Adam Fredritz each had a hit for Bluffton.

Coldwater 6, Lincolnview 5

COLDWATER — Myles Blasingame knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. He finished with two hits and two RBI. Teammate Knapke had three hits. Dane Ebel had a hit and an RBI for Lincolnview.

Delphos Jefferson 6,

Delphos St. John’s 1

DELPHOS — Jefferson scored five run in the top of the ninth. Starting pitcher Logan Gallmeier and winning hurler Josh Wiseman combined to allow three hits and two walks while striking out six in nine innings. Wiseman also had a double and three RBI. Jacob Simmons had three hits, including a triple, and two RBI and teammate Tanner Vorhees had four hits and an RBI. Brady Kerner doubled and Zane Wertenberger had a hit and an RBI for DSJ.

Fremont Ross 1,

Lima Senior 0

FREMONT — Lima Senior’s Skyler Williams pitched four innings, allowing no earned runs, four hits and no walks with one strikeout in a game held to five innings. Williams and teammate D’Ontre Cowan each had a hit.

FREMONT — Lima Senior’s Brandon Griffith allowed no earned runs, three hits and walk while striking out one in a game limited to five innings. Williams and teammate D’Ontre Cowan each had a hit.

SPENCERVILLE — Winning pitcher Evan Osting allowed one earned run, four hits and four walks while striking out 11 in seven innings. Tyler Koenig had a double and two RBI, Emerson Layman had a hit and two RBI and Sy Morris had three hits also for Spencerville. Jake Poling had two hits for Ada.

Paulding 10,

Continental 0

PAULDING — Winning pitcher Blake McGarvey allowed five hits and no walks while striking out 11 in six innings. Hunter Kauser had two hits and an RBI and Ethan Foltz had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Dwayne Nienberg had a pair of hits for Continental.

LIMA — Thursday’s Wayne Trace at Lima Central Catholic was postponed until 5 p.m. May 12.

LIMA — Els Nelson had three hits, including a triple, Anna Engberg had three hits, including a triple, and two RBI, Tillie Nelson had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBI and Tatum Twining had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Lima Senior.

Winning pitcher Taylor Post allowed six hits and a walk while striking out seven in five innings. Destiny Coil had three home runs and five RBI, Winter Boroff had three hits, including a double, and an RBI, Addysen Stevens had a double, a home run and two RBI, Hanna Young had two hits and three RBI and Andi Webb had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Lincolnview. Anna Fitch had had two hits and Noel Warnament had a hit and an RBI for Jefferson.

Camryn Swain had two hits and Allison Dirksen had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Marion Local.

Elida graduate

ANGOLA, IN — Senior offensive lineman Noah Meeker was among 11 Trine University to earn All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors.

The Elida graduate was a first-team selection. The Thunder finished with a 4-1 overall record and went 2-1 in the MIAA in an abbreviated season.

Bluffton splits DH

BLUFFTON — The Beavers scored four runs in the eighth inning of game two for a 6-5 victory to notch a split with Manchester University after losing the opener 5-2. Manchester moved to 18-19 on the season, while the Beavers stand 16-22 overall and in the Heartland Conference with the final regular season games slated for Sunday when Bluffton travels to Defiance High School for a doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets.

ADA — Four Ohio Northern student/athletes were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in voting conducted by the league’s nine head coaches.

Senior Annie McArn, sophomore Lacey Wernoch and freshman Sydney Kilgore were all named to the second team, while sophomore Meredith Miller received honorable mention honors.

LIMA — Limaland Motorsports Park’s season-opening shootout was canceled following Thursday night’s rain along with Friday’s cold temperatures and rain.
