Bo Frye picked to be next St. Marys head football coach

ST. MARYS — Pending Board of Education approval, Bo Frye has been named the next varsity football head coach at St. Marys.

A first-team all-state selection at running back in 2005 and a member of St. Marys’ 2004 Division III state runner-up team, Frye went on to play at Northern Michigan and St. Francis University.

Frye has been an assistant for his father, former Roughriders head coach Doug Frye, for the last 10 seasons and on the St. Marys coaching staff the past seven seasons. The Roughriders have qualified for the playoffs the last five seasons and reached the D-IV state semifinals in 2018.

Elmwood meet

BLOOMDALE — The Bluffton boys won the team title with 65.5 points followed by Elmwood (64.5) and Tinora (44).

Bluffton’s Jonathon Schriner won the 100 and 400 and teammates Aaron Tabler (shot put), Brien Bassinger (long jump), Wyatt Lovell (high jump) and Landyn Fleharty (200) also were event winners.

BLOOMDALE — Bluffton (40 points) finished third behind Tinora (72) and Elmwood (58).

Brianna Taber (pole vault) and Clara Mathews (1,600) won events for Bluffton.

FORT RECOVERY — Winning pitcher Johnny Nixon allowed four hits and a walk while striking out five in seven innings. Justin Nixon had three hits and an RBI and Eric Schmidt and Nathan Oldiges each had a hit also for Minster.

Derek Lochtefeld had a double and an RBI and Riley Will, Brock Dues and Daniel Patch each had a hit for Fort Recovery.

Games rescheduled

Many area high school sports events were posted Thursday due to inclement weather.

Baseball games already rescheduled include Allen East at Spencerville (May 12), Bluffton at Columbus Grove (May 12), Delphos Jefferson at Lincolnview (May 5), Marion Local at New Bremen (April 30), New Knoxville at St. Henry (May 12) and Riverside at Waynesfield-Goshen (April 30).

Softball games rescheduled include Allen East at Spencerville (May 12), Delphos Jefferson at Lincolnview (May 7), Fort Recovery at Minster (May 15), New Bremen at Marion Local (April 30), Coldwater at Parkway (April 30) and Riverside at Waynesfield-Goshen (April 30).

Shawnee signings

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Four Shawnee athletes are scheduled to sign college letters of intent at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the high school gym.

Scheduled to sign are Reece Bagan (Bluffton football), Jarin Bertke and Cade Vermillion (Mount Vernon Nazarene baseball) and George Mangas (Fairmont State basketball).

Wapakoneta graduate Don Goodes had three hits, including a home run, and six RBI, Yadi Rivera had four hits, including two doubles, and three RBI, Jeffre Castillo had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI and Glen Crabtree had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI.

Siena Heights 8, UNOH 7

ADRIAN, Mich. — Rivera had two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Crabtree had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI for the Racers.
