Roundup: New Bremen defeats St. Henry for district title

WAPAKONETA — New Bremen outscored St. Henry 16-3 in the third quarter on its way to a 47-41 boys high school basketball Division IV district final victory Friday night.

David Homan (16), Nick Alig (12) and Reece Busse (10) each scored in double digits for the Cardinals, who will play Antwerp, a 23-20 winner against Toledo Christian, in the regional semifinals at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Van Wert.

Bennett Gels had 12 points, Carter Ontrop scored 10 and finished with eight rebounds and Casey Bruening had seven assists for St. Henry.

COLUMBUS — Wapakoneta’s Rylie Jeanneret finished 18th individually with a 551 series at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl. Chagrin Falls Kenston’s Jenna Stretch had the top series with a 740.

PERRYSBURG — Lima Senior’s Aaron Bowsher (145 pounds) remained alive for a state berth with a consolation round victory after falling in the quarterfinals.

Division II

NORWALK — St. Marys’ Tyler Hisey (106 pounds) and Trevor Hisey (113), Celina’s Landon Engle (126) and Elida’s Conner Douglass (138) reached the semifinals.

Division III

TROY — Ada’s Clayton McClain (113 pounds), Allen East’s Kade Wireman (138), Chase Miller (160), Blake Hershberger (170) and Eli Criblez (285), Chase Martin (170) of Delphos St. John’s, Coldwater’s Caleb Stammen (195), Columbus Grove’s Ezra Jones (195), Spencerville’s Brandon Dues (285) and Columbus Grove’s Jeff Meyer (285) all advanced to the semifinals.

Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Daniel Beemer is among six Ashland competitors moving on to to the Division II Championships being held March 12-13 at America’s Convention Center Complex in St. Louis.

Beemer (8-1) won the Super Region 3 championship at 174 pounds.

Lima Central Catholic Grad Emily Sreenan Leads Flyers to 2nd Place Finish At A-10 Cross Country Championship

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Lima Central Catholic graduate Emily Sreenan finished in fourth place as the University of Dayton finished second at the 2020-21 Atlantic 10 Championships at Pole Green Park

Sreenan’s time of 17:24.9 is the fifth best all-time at UD.

The Flyers scored 94 points, being edged out by Duquesne’s 92 points.

Rhode Island’s Lotte Black repeated as the individual champion with a time of 16:37.4. St. Marys graduate Kelly Wilker finished 18th in a time of 18:03.5 also for UD.

OAC Championships

WESTERVILLE — Kayla Silva and Kylie Vestal earned All-OAC honors in two events each to lead Ohio Northern to a third place finish in the OAC Indoor Championships at the Clements Center.

ONU finished third of 10 teams with 85 points. No. 5-ranked John Carroll won the team championship with 216 points, No. 13 Mount Union was second with 194.5 points, Otterbein was fourth with 71.5 points and No. 16 Baldwin Wallace was fifth with 64 points.

With the third place finish the Polar Bears end their indoor season with a 22-9 record.

The top three finishers in each of the 19 events earned All-Conference honors.

Silva finished second in the 200 in 26.06 seconds and was third in the 60 meters in 7.83 seconds.

Vestal finished third in the 1,000 in 3:02.31 to earn All-OAC honors.

She was also on the distance medlay relay team with J.J. Herron (Miamisburg), Columbus Grove graduate Taylor Ellerbrock and Megan Wright (Eaton/Twin Valley South) that finished 3rd in 12:38.06.
