Roundup: Bath defeats LCC for sectional title in boys basketball

LIMA — Bath wouldn’t go down three times in a row to Lima Central Catholic.

Bath knocked off LCC 57-52 to win the Division III boys sectional championship Saturday night at LCC’s Herr Gymnasium.

Bath (12-12) advances to the district semifinals against Wayne Trace at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lima Senior.

Jonah Wauben led Bath with 15 points. Bradyn Fleharty scored 14. Carter Parlapiano had 12 with four 3-pointers. Ian Armentrout scored eight.

Evan Unruh had 16 points for LCC. Rossy Moore scored 13. Billy Bourk had 10.

LCC is 12-11.

Bath led 19-13 after the first quarter and 31-26 at the half. Bath led 44-38 after three.

LCC defeated Bath twice during the season, including 62-55 in the Elida Tip-Off Classic. LCC defeated Bath 56-52 on Dec. 8 at LCC.

Division II

Defiance 51, Van Wert 30

DEFIANCE – Defiance pulled away from Van Wert in the second half to win the sectional at Defiance.

Defiance advances to the district semifinals against No. 1-seed Shawnee at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Spencerville.

Owen Treece led Van Wert with 15 points. Aidan Pratt scored seven.

Bradyn Shawn paced Defiance with 15 points. David Jimenez scored 10. Cayden Zachrich had eight.

Van Wert led 13-12 after the first quarter.

Defiance took a 20-19 lead at the half and led 39-24 lead after three.

Division IV

Minster 53, New Knoxville 33

WAPAKONETA – Minster rolled past New Knoxville to win the district championship at Wapakoneta.

Minster (24-1) advances to the regional semifinals against Fort Loramie at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Vandalia Butler.

Ivy Wolf led Minster with 19 points with three 3-pointers. Janae Hoying and Brynn Oldiges both scored nine.

Morgan Leffel led the Rangers with 13 points. Carsyn Henschen had seven.

New Knoxville is 21-5.

Minster led 14-6 after the first quarter and 27-13 at the half. Minster led 41-21 after three.

Crestview 51, Ottoville 35

DEFIANCE – Crestview knocked off Ottoville to win the district championship at Defiance.

Crestview advances to the regional semifinals against Toledo Christian Thursday at Elida.

Olivia Cunningham and Myia Etzler both scored 12 points for Crestview. Cali Gregory had nine.

Nicole Knippen scored 10 for the Big Green. Skylar Turnwald had nine.

Crestview led 11-10 after the first quarter and 23-19 at the half. Crestview led 36-28 after three.

Boys bowling

Division II state

COLUMBUS – Coldwater advanced to the state semifinals before falling to Fairport Harbor 192-180 in the fifth and deciding game at the Division II boys bowling state championship Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Fairport Harbor knocked off Coldwater three games to two in the semifinals, 236-203, 181-231, 194-199, 255-234, 192-180.

Mechanicsburg then defeated Fairport Harbor in the finals, 176-138, 202-138 and 211-194 to win the state championship.

Versailles, which lost to Mechanicsburg in the other state semifinals, led after the qualifying rounds with a pin total of 3,662.

Coldwater was third after qualifying with a total of 3,477. Coldwater had a three-game, regulation total of 2,917 and a three-game, baker-game total of 560.

The top eight teams out of 16 then advanced to the knock-out, elimination stage.

Coldwater defeated Sandusky Perkins in the first round, 209-161, 227-152, 180-188 and 225-161.

That put the Cavaliers in the semifinals.

Versailles’ Tyler Gehret won the state title by rolling a 684 (204-267-213).

Coldwater’s Hayden Beougher finished 20th with a 605. Coldwater’s Keaton Bruns was 29th with a 568.

Minster’s Chandler Hoskins rolled a 558 and finished 33rd as an individual.

Girls bowling

Division I district

PORT CLINTON – Wapakoneta’s Rylie Jenneret and Ashland’s team moved on to the state tournament at the Division I girls bowling district tournament Saturday at Star Lanes at Port Clinton.

Only one team and one individual qualified in Division I to head to state from the district.

Jenneret moved on to state as the district champion, rolling a 639 (210-235-194).

Ashland won the district with a total of 3,798.

Wapakoneta was second with 3,742. Celina finished third with 3,467.

Shawnee was fifth with 3,236. Lima Senior was eighth with 2,959.

A total of eight teams competed at the district tournament.

Lima Senior’s Tatum Twining finished fourth with a 584. Wapak’s Bailey Van Meter finished fifth with a 583.

Celina’s Ashtyn Huber placed sixth with a 570. Shawnee’s Olivia Miller finished ninth with a 539.

Wapak’s Madison Doseck was 10th with a 536. Celina’s Madison Harden was 13th with a 514.

Shawnee’s Emma Holden was 18th with a 491. Celina’s Audree Gray was 19th with a 490. Celina’s Antonia Posada was 20th with a 489.

Lima Senior’s Emma Hipsher was 21st with a 471. Shawnee’s Lynden Bassitt was tied for 21st with a 471.

Wapak’s Alayna Spangler was 24th with a 457. Lima Senior’s Haley Shafer was 29th with a 431. Defiance’s Savannah Roth was 31st with a 424.

Elida had individuals Skylar Lamb was 32nd with a 412 and Sarah Munson was 33rd with a 411.

Shawnee’s Samantha Zeltner was 35th with a 403.

Women’s lacrosse

Ohio Northern 18, Marietta 12

ADA – Ohio Northern freshman Sydney Kilgore scored five goals to power the Polar Bears past Marietta at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

ONU’s Meredith Miller scored four goals. Ann McArn had three goals and two assists. Maddie Girard had a career-high four assists.

Kilgore has hat tricks in all three of our college games.

ONU is 1-2, all in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Women’s track

ONU wins invite

ADA – Ohio Northern’s Kayla Silva broke her own school record in the 60-meter dash and also won the long jump to help the Polar Bears win the Larry Cole Invitational Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.

ONU (15-8) won the invite with 111 points. Otterbein was second with 97.

Silva broke the 60-meter dash record in 7.88 seconds.

Silva won the long jump with 5.40 meters.

Men’s track

ONU finishes first

ADA – Ohio Northern, ranked No. 22 in the nation, won the Larry Cole Invitational at the ONU Sports Center.

ONU won the meet with 142.50 points. Otterbein was second with 106.5.

Women’s basketball

Ohio Northern 61, Baldwin-Wallace 53

ADA – Ohio Northern’s Lexi Jacobs (Wapakoneta) tossed in 14 points with four assists and the Polar Bears knocked off Baldwin-Wallace at the ONU Sports Center Saturday night.

ONU ends the regular season 5-7, all in the Ohio Athletic Conference. B-W is 8-4, all in the OAC.

Emily Brock added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Polar Bears. Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) also had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Men’s basketball

Marietta 105, Ohio Northern 72

MARIETTA – Marietta, ranked No. 9 in the nation, went over 100 in a win over Ohio Northern at Marietta.

ONU ends the regular season 3-6, all in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta is 9-1, all in the OAC.

ONU’s C.J. Napier had 19 points and seven rebounds. Grant Heileman had 11 points. Brandon Waugh scored 10.
